The successful candidate will be an experienced leader who understands the business of operating a nonprofit organization, and with a successful record in donor development, fund development, and relationship building. This position requires an outgoing initiator who will work well with our volunteers and our existing plan and with strong organizational and communication skills. Job Description

The Roti Roti Art Center of Buchanan Executive Director (ED) is the staff leader of this small arts-focused organization in the heart of Buchanan, Michigan and serving the greater region. The ED will work with the Board of Directors and committee chairs to assure that organization programs, projects and events are conducted in a timely and professional manner in accordance with established policies and procedures and aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.

Organization Mission and Role

RRAC’s Mission is to provide a place in our community dedicated to nurturing the arts. 

​

RRAC provides a quality educational experience for all ages, as well as gallery exhibits, sales opportunities and a gift shop that are supportive of class offerings and local artists, thereby enabling the Center to creatively enlist the power of the arts in promoting social change. Chamber Music Summer Concert Series

 

Position Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working with committees and community partners, the ED will have overall operational responsibility for RRAC’s staff, volunteers, programs, facility, resource development, allocation and management. 

 

Leadership and Administration

 

The ED will work with the Board and committee chairs to:

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, evaluate programs and activities, plan and implement a diverse array of arts-related programs and activities of value and interest to all the community.

  • Assure effective and efficient operations and administration meeting all standards for a well-run, small, not-for-profit organization.

  • Build, sustain and expand relationships with key community partners in the public and private sectors.

  • Work effectively with RRAC committees and volunteers to further the goals of the organization. 

  • Supervise and evaluate paid and volunteer staff filling key roles in the organization. (This does not include the Board or Executive Committee.)

  • With volunteer leadership, be the lead in developing and maintaining an annual income and expense budget for the organization.

 

Communications, Resource Development and Marketing

 

The ED will work with the Board and committee chairs to:

  • Create an annual and three-year plan to generate resources including the fundraising needed for operations and sustainability, and lead implementation of the resource development plan.

  • Build a strong communications and marketing function to share current, interesting, useful information on RRAC and RRAC classes and events, regional artists, craftspeople and musicians and other arts-related events.

 

Outreach and Partnerships

 

The ED will work with the Board and committee chairs to:

  • Build a team of key partnerships.

  • Reach out to build relationships with less-engaged community sectors.

  • Connect and collaborate with regional artists and arts educators.

  • Build the Center as a meeting and connecting place for the region.

 

Qualifications

  • Proven interest and experience in the arts and arts administration, preferably in the region served by RRAC.

  • A college degree, preferably in a field pertinent to leading an arts organization.

  • A minimum of 3 years of arts-related work experience or experience in a key area of not-for-profit operations such as finance, volunteer services, resource development, communications, etc. 

  • Experience in a staff or volunteer leadership role in a community-based organization working with a Board of Directors and volunteer-led committees.

  • Knowledge of not-for-profit financial management.

  • Outstanding proven organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, including written and spoken.

  • Familiarity with social media and current communication and marketing tools that can be used to build awareness and engagement with RRAC and the arts.

  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.

  • Great energy and enthusiasm for the work of RRAC.

  • Significant personal engagement with some aspect of the arts is a plus.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with an array of partners.

 

The position requires flexibility in scheduling, being at events – both RRAC and community events – that may take place evening or weekends. Most of the ED’s time will be spent at the Center, but there will also be extensive outreach, donor cultivation meetings, community presentation, and arts-related activities where the ED’s presence would be expected. In exchange for the ED’s flexibility, the Center will also allow the ED scheduling flexibility with a weekly schedule posted in advance and assurance that the Center is staffed all hours that it is open.
