For our fall raku event, we welcome visitors to try their hand at raku. One Saturday morning, we invite you to come in! Buy a piece of pre-fired handmade pottery, donated by our potters, and apply our raku glazes to the pottery with your own design, under the guidance of our instructors.

 

While waiting for your pot to dry, explore our galleries and gift shop. Then step outside to watch the magic happen. 

 

All pottery is heated to red hot in our outdoor kiln, taken out with tongs,  then smothered in our stash of newspapers (until they burst into flames! ) to set the glazes. The hot pottery is immersed in water to cool, then scrubbed clean of soot and other detritus.

Raku results are completely unique and exciting to witness. 

The entire process takes 3 hours. All ages are welcome to this annual fall event!
